What is a lithium Battery? 

A lithium leisure battery, also known as a lithium-ion battery or LiFePO4 battery, is a type of rechargeable battery commonly used in recreational vehicles (RVs), boats, caravans, and other leisure applications. These batteries offer several benefits over traditional lead-acid batteries, which are often used in similar applications. Benefits of lithium leisure batteries: 

• Higher energy density: Lithium batteries have a higher energy density, meaning they can store more energy in a smaller and lighter package compared to lead-acid batteries. This results in a more compact and lightweight battery system, which is particularly advantageous in weight-sensitive applications like RVs and boats.
• Longer lifespan: Lithium batteries typically have a longer lifespan than lead-acid batteries, often lasting 10 times longer. This translates to fewer battery replacements over the lifetime of the vehicle or equipment, reducing maintenance costs and downtime. 
• Higher efficiency: Lithium batteries have lower self-discharge rates and higher charging efficiency, which means they can hold their charge for longer periods and require less energy to recharge compared to lead-acid batteries. 
• Faster charging: Lithium batteries can be charged much faster than lead-acid batteries, allowing for quicker "top-ups" during short stops or when connected to solar panels or other charging sources. 
• Improved performance: Lithium batteries maintain a more consistent voltage output throughout their discharge cycle, providing better performance for appliances and electronics compared to the voltage sag experienced with lead-acid batteries. 
• Environmental friendliness: Lithium batteries are generally considered more environmentally friendly than lead-acid batteries, as they do not contain heavy metals like lead and have a lower overall environmental impact during manufacturing and disposal. 
• Low maintenance: Lithium batteries are typically maintenance-free, unlike lead-acid batteries that require periodic maintenance and electrolyte level checks. 

While lithium leisure batteries offer many advantages the price can be a little off putting, so what do you get for your money? Basically a lighter battery with a much better life expectancy up to10 times that of traditional lead-based batteries and with the added advantage of having the ability to recover from a fully discharged state.
